A Caneyville woman has been critically injured after being run over by a truck driven by her intoxicated boyfriend.

Thursday night at approximately 10:10, Grayson County Deputy Rick Mehlbauer, Sgt. Zane Greer and Deputy Sean Fentress were alerted by the Leitchfield Police Department that a woman, 22-year-old Rachel Mendoza Lunsford, arrived at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by private means and suffering from critical injuries in what could have been a domestic dispute. The incident took place outside Leitchfield city limits.

The investigation led deputies to a residence in the 6700 block of Sadler Road where a New Year’s Eve party had taken place. During the party, police said Lunsford and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Kenneth “Jacob” Duncan, of Caneyville, began arguing, with Duncan leaving the party in a full-size Dodge pickup truck.

As Duncan returned to the party a short time later, Lunsford walked or ran to the roadway, about 30 yards from the residence, and according to police, possibly slipped, falling in front of the truck. The truck ran over Lunsford — although the tires did not strike the victim — causing a severe head injury along with other injuries.

She was taken to the ER by a friend at the party who had not been drinking, police said.

Duncan, who was visibly upset, was arrested and charged with DUI and first-degree assault and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
