Wednesday night, a semi-truck struck a light pole at Southgate Mall causing it to fall and land on top of a van.

At approximately 9:15 Wednesday night, Leitchfield Police Department Officers Missy Skaggs and Kelsey Overton responded to Southgate Mall after an AMG Logistics semi-truck’s trailer hit a light pole in the north end of the parking lot.

The pole, mounted on concrete, broke off at the bottom and fell on top of a Rent-A-Center van, with the large light fixture dislodging and shattering on the ground.

The van suffered only minor damage, but the pole missed striking the van’s windshield by mere inches.

The driver of the truck didn’t realize he hit the pole, as he left the scene and traveled south on South Main Street as a witness followed.

LPD Officer Adam Cottrell caught and executed a traffic stop on the truck in the 7100 block of Anneta Road, at Smitty City.

After conducting a short inquiry at Smitty City, and assisted by Grayson County Deputies Rick Mehlbauer and Andy Vincent, Cottrell and the truck driver and truck returned to Southgate Mall. After police conducted an investigation at the mall, the driver was allowed to leave.

No one was injured in the incident.
