Lady Cougars down Taylor County 54-50

In a game that saw seven lead changes and three ties, the Lady Cougars got career nights from two players on their way to their second straight victory, 54-50 over the visiting Taylor County Lady Cardinals Monday afternoon in the Cougar Den.

Senior Rachael Snyder had a career-high 26 points and 15 rebounds, while junior Raigan Cave scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the way for the Lady Cougars.

The Lady Cardinals scored the first five points of the game, but the Lady Cougars responded with a 9-2 run to take their first lead of the game, 9-7, at the 2:54 mark. Grayson County led by one point, 14-13 heading into the second period.

A three-pointer by Taylor sophomore Gracie Hunt with 5:33 left in the first half gave the Lady Cardinals their largest lead of the game, four points at 21-17. Grayson responded with six straight to retake the lead, 23-21 with 3:20 left. The two teams were tied 28-28 at the half.

With Taylor leading by a point, 31-30 at the 6:37 mark, the Lady Cougars scored seven unanswered to lead by six, 37-31 with 3:25 left in the half. Cave hit a three at the buzzer, her second of the period, that gave Grayson County an eight-point lead, 42-34.

The Lady Cardinals opened the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run that put them back into the lead, 44-42 at the 4:58 mark. Snyder answered with 3-of-4 at the foul line to put the Lady Cougars back on top, 45-44 with 4:09 left.

Taylor junior Anna Grace Eads hit 2-of-4 at the line to put the Lady Cardinals back up by one, 46-45 with 2:02 left. Three straight lead changes followed with Snyder hitting a lay-in at 1:19 to put the Lady Cougars in front to stay, 49-48. Grayson County outscored Taylor down the stretch 5-2 for the four-point win.

Kiper finished with five points, two rebounds, two steals and a team-high four assists. Senior Ella Robinson scored four points, as did freshman Sidney Perkins, to close out the Grayson County scoring. Perkins hit two big free throws with 39 seconds left that preserved the Lady Cougar lead.
