Cougars thrash Nelson County, 52-22

The Cougars put a 30-point whipping on the visiting Nelson County Cardinals, 52-32 on Saturday in the Cougar Den.

Grayson County put nine players into the scoring column as they completely dominate the visitors to move to 6-3 on the season. Junior Keegan Sharp led the Cougars with 13 points and four rebounds, while junior Chandler McCrady added 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals..

The Cougars held the Cardinals to just four points in the first quarter and held a 10-point lead, 14-4 heading into the second period. They led by as many as 15 points in the second period before the Cardinals scored the final five points to trail by 10 at the half, 21-11.

Grayson County opened the third quarter with a 12-2 run that extended their lead to 20 points, 33-13 with 4:56 left in the period. They then outscored the Cardinals 10-3 the rest of the period and held a 27-point advantage at the start of the fourth quarter, 43-16. They then outscored the visitors 9-6 in the fourth quarter for the 30-point win.

Sophomore River Blanton scored seven points and led the Cougars on the boards with 10 rebounds, and added two assists and a steal. Junior Hunter Tomes had five points and five rebounds. Four players, Brayden Childress, Chase Johnson, Dillon Horn, and Owen Bratcher all scored four points, with Horn adding eight rebounds two assists and a steal, and Johnson adding seven boards.

Sophomore Nolan Hornbeck had one  point to close out the Cougar scoring and added four rebounds.
