Lady Cougars pound Muhlenberg County

Senior Rachael Snyder scored 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds on Senior Night to propel the Lady Cougars to a 60-40, blowout win over the Muhlenberg County Lady Mustangs Saturday evening in the Cougar Den.

Grayson County trailed just once on the night, 2-0 at the 7:24 mark. Snyder answered with a three-pointer to give the Lady Cougars the lead for good, 3-2 with 6:42 left in the period. The Lady Cougars led by 13 points, 21-8 at the start of the second period.

Senior Ella Robinson scored off a Snyder assist with 4:36 left in the half to give the Lady Cougars their largest lead of the first half, 21 points at 31-10.The Lady Mustangs answered with seven unanswered points to pull to within 14 points, 31-17 with 2:51 remaining in the first half. Grayson County led by 12 points, 34-22 at the half.

A lay-in by Muhlenberg’s Sarah Cate Boggess at the 6:02 mark of the third quarter cut the Lady Cougar lead to nine points, 36-27, but Grayson County scored the final nine points of the period to lead by 18 points, 45-27 heading into the fourth quarter.

Muhlenberg scored the first five points of the final period to cut the lead to 13 points, 45-32 with 5:32 left, but the Lady Cougars responded with an 8-1 run that pushed the lead to 20 points, 53-33 with 3:15 remaining and the Lady Mustangs were never closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

Freshman Jaycee Nofsinger led the Lady Mustangs with 16 points, while Boggess finished with 13.

Sophomore Aryssa Riggs joined Snyder in double figures, finishing with 10 points. Sophomore Annie Kiper scored eight points and added a team-high five assists.

Senior Ella Robinson scored six points and led the team on the glass with 11 rebounds before fouling out with three minutes left in the game. Freshman Sydney Perkins scored five points off the bench, while senior Brianna Dennis closed out the scoring with three points.
