A Clarkson woman has been injured after swerving off the Western Kentucky Parkway, flipping her car onto its top.

Wednesday night at approximately 9:40, Grayson County Deputy Nick Pruitt and the Clarkson Fire Department responded to the single-vehicle accident near the 116 westbound parkway. Upon arriving at the scene, 31-year-old Courtney Proffitt, driving a Jeep Cherokee, said she swerved to miss an animal, left the roadway and entered a ditch line.

The vehicle traveled about 180 feet in the ditch, at one point climbing a 12-foot embankment and hitting a tree on top of the embankment, ripping off the back passenger side tire. The Jeep then flipped end-over-end, coming to rest on its top.

Proffitt was helped from the heavily damaged vehicle by a Good Samaritan. She initially refused medical treatment but arranged to be taken to a hospital by private means after it became apparent she suffered a head injury.
