A longtime central Kentucky sheriff has pled guilty to a DUI charge.

Jessamine County Sheriff Kevin Corman pled guilty to DUI on Monday after being arrested the night of September 10.

Corman was spotted by witnesses just before midnight driving erratically in an SUV near East Jessamine County High School. Nicholasville police responded and observed the vehicle cross the center line twice, according to media reports.

A traffic stop was initiated and when police made contact with Corman he was unsteady on his feet, with the sheriff failing a field sobriety test. A preliminary blood-alcohol breath test was administered, with Corman registering a .136, well above the legal limit of .08.

During a search of his county-owned SUV, officers located a cup containing bourbon.

Corman issued a written statement after his guilty plea:

“I would like to apologize to my family, friends, staff, and fellow citizens of Jessamine for my error in judgement on September 10th. Thinking I was not impaired that night was a mistake, and I sincerely hope that the people of this community can accept my apology. I am truly thankful for the outpouring of support and friendship I have received during this time. It has been truly overwhelming, and I am truly thankful for your prayers and support.”

Corman was first elected sheriff in 2006 and has been employed by the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office since the 1990s, according to media reports.
