A Grayson County man has been arrested after having his second DUI wreck in 20 months.

Tuesday night at approximately 9:45, Clarkson Police Officer Blake Elmore responded to the 200 block of Old Leitchfield Road and found a Ford work van had run off the road in a straight stretch and traveled into a ditch.

Upon making contact with the driver, 68-year-old Steven Crable, of Falls of Rough, Elmore detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the suspect as well as from inside the van. There were additionally numerous alcoholic beverage containers in plain view inside the vehicle.

Crable was given a field sobriety test and arrested. He was charged with his second DUI, second-degree wanton endangerment and careless driving along with numerous non-moving violations.

He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Crable was previously arrested in March 2020 by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office after having a DUI crash on Owensboro Road near Short Creek.

In that case, when deputies arrived at the scene, they found Crable had been traveling east in a 2012 Ford F-150 truck when he left the roadway while coming out of a curve. The vehicle traveled down a short embankment, nearly striking a concrete culvert along the way.

Police said Crable had “bloodshot, glassy eyes” and was “unsteady on his feet,” according to the arrest citation.

Crable was given a field sobriety test and arrested. He admitted to the deputy, according to the citation, that he consumed alcohol, including Fireball (a mixture of whiskey and cinnamon), during the day in Shively, in Jefferson County, before driving to Grayson County.

Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Clay Boone and Deputy Erik Franklin assisted at the scene.
