
Kentucky health officials reported a combined 5,654 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday (2,841) and Friday (2,813) to go along with 104 deaths.
Those numbers come of the heels of the 3,312 new cases reported on Wednesday, the most new cases reported in a single day since 4,118 cases were announced on October 1. Wednesday was the first time the state has had over 3,000 new cases since October 1.
Between Monday and Friday of this week, 12,467 new cases were announced, the most cases reported in a five-day period in many weeks. The new cases raise to 794,816 the number of cases reported in Kentucky since the beginning of pandemic.
The 104 deaths reported on Thursday and Friday increase the state’s death toll over the last five days to 192 (38.4 deaths per day). The commonwealth has now had 11,091 COVID deaths (1.4 percent fatality rate).
The positivity rate continues a troubling increase, as the key metric checked in at 9.21 percent on Friday, up from Wednesday’s 8.56 percent, and up from 8.14 percent on Monday. On November 1, the positivity rate was 5.03 percent.
Hospitalizations are also on the rise, as 972 were hospitalized on Friday, up from Wednesday’s 943, and up 113 patients since Monday.
The number of people in intensive care has gone up from Wednesday’s 249 to 284 on Friday, and patients on ventilators have increased from Wednesday’s 123 to 156 on Friday.
