
The state Capitol building and Capitol Annex in Frankfort were placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after suspects fired at officers on Leawood Drive, just west of the Capitol building.
Frankfort police officers attempted a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle at approximately 8:00 Tuesday morning when two men in the vehicle fled on foot, with one of the men shooting at officers, media outlets report.
The suspect who shot at police, 23-year-old Joshua L. Gibson, of Louisville, was captured in the Capitol Annex parking garage by Frankfort police, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and state police. The other man eluded authorities.
Nearby schools were also placed on lockdown.
The Capitol was reopened to visitors at 10:45 Tuesday morning.
Gibson is being held in the Franklin County Regional Jail where he was charged with receiving stolen property (over $10,000), second-degree criminal trespassing and fleeing or evading police (on foot). Additional charges are possible.
