A Kentucky State Trooper shot and killed a Powell County man who had set his own house on fire before shooting at police.
Kentucky State Police said that approximately 11:30 Sunday night, troopers and the Stanton Police Department were dispatched to a home on Cat Creek Road to conduct a welfare check after receiving reports of shots fired inside the residence.
When law enforcement arrived, the suspect refused to exit the home. Police attempted to negotiate with the man, but he set his home on fire. The suspect then exited the home with a gun and began shooting at police. A trooper fired back, striking and killing the suspect.
Police have not released further information on the suspect, or the trooper involved in the shooting.
