On Monday afternoon at about 2:40, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments and EMS responded to the 2400 block of Hanging Rock Road on the report of a single-car accident.

Upon arriving at the scene, Chief Deputy Corey Knochel and Deputy Taylor Logsdon found that an eastbound Nissan Altima had left the road, traveled a short distance through a field and struck a tree head-on.

The driver of the car, 40-year-old Myron Rich, of Leitchfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Even though Rich was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, police were uncertain that his death was caused by the accident. The severity of the impact, indicated by major damage to the front end of the Altima, did not match the much smaller impact mark on the tree that was struck.

Marks left by the car as it traveled off the road, both before striking the tree and after, were closely examined and scrutinized as investigators attempted to recreate the wreck.

The possibility that the vehicle had been involved in a separate incident was raised by authorities, and is currently under investigation.

Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson recovered Rich’s body from the scene and transported the remains to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for autopsy in hopes of determining if a medical-related, or some other type of event occurred prior to the accident, and which was the primary cause of Rich’s death.

The investigation into the accident continues and is being led by Chief Deputy Knochel, Deputy Logsdon and Hudson.
