A simple glance while operating a bush hog has led a former Grayson County resident, and current Kyrock Fire Department member Adam Nance, to organize a relief effort aimed at helping residents of Florida overcome the disastrous effects of Hurricane Irma.
Nance said while he was bush hogging on his in-law’s property, he glanced over at an empty trailer, leading him to decide then and there to collect donations to help the victims of Hurricane Irma.
As Nance discussed his idea with family members, including his wife Cheyenne and her parents, Allan and Elizabeth Downs, “ideas started flying around” as the family enthusiastically embraced Nance’s idea of aiding Hurricane Irma victims.
The family decided to begin attempting to fill with donations the 32-foot trailer Nance spotted on the Downs’ property, with plans to fill two 53-foot trailers, owned by Elizabeth Downs Trucking,
out of Big Clifty.
Nance and family will collect donations at the Leitchfield Fire Department Training Center at 2360 Brandenburg Road on Saturday from 9:00 until 5:00, as well as at the Bonnieville Church of God of Prophecy, located at 7174 North Dixie Hwy, in Bonnieville, from 9:00 until 3:00, also on Saturday.
Monetary donations may also be sent to Bonnieville Church of God of Prophecy, and please include a “Disaster Relief” notation on the check (the church’s mailing address is 7174 North Dixie Hwy, Bonnieville, KY, 42713).
Some of the items Nance are asking to be donated include new or gently used clothing and shoes, men and women’s underwear, socks, adult diapers, blankets, cleaning supplies, band aids, disinfectant, bleach, non-perishable food items, hygiene products, toiler paper, soap and body wash, shampoo, diapers, wipes, and children’s clothing.
The trailer[s] will leave for Florida next week, and Nance has been in contact with Florida officials to determine the exact location of where the donated items will be delivered.
Nance said he would like to thank Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall, Kyrock Fire Chief Jeff Clubb and Rev. Dewayne Kidd, of the Bonnieville Church of God of Prophecy, for allowing the use of their respective facilities.
