Monday night at 9:00, the East Grayson and Clarkson Fire Departments responded to the 200 block of Langley Drive on the report of a structure fire.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found a wood-frame home fully engulfed in flames, with sections of the home already on the ground.
Firefighters had to travel through dense brush to get to the home, which sat unoccupied and tightly surrounded by trees and vast plant life, about 30 yards off the roadway.
It took about 30 minutes to extinguish the flames, but it took firefighters over an hour to douse hot-spots and the trees and brush that surrounds the home.
The fire was suspicious in nature due to the fact that the home had no electricity running to it, and according to an East Grayson fireman, had been empty for an extended time.
At about 10:20, an East Grayson fireman was overcome by “severe heat exhaustion” and was transported by EMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center with an elevated blood pressure and labored breathing.
K105 will update the fireman’s condition as the information becomes available.
In many ways, the fire was similar to the eight fires set between September 2014 and spring 2015 in the Big Clifty area. Those fires, all of which appeared to be intentionally set, struck empty homes and were oftentimes in relatively remote areas. Most of those fires occurred between midnight and 2:00 a.m.
No arrests have been made in any of those eight fires.
