Sunday morning at approximately 6:00, Kentucky State Police was requested to assist the Allen County Sheriff’s Office in a vehicle pursuit that originated in Tennessee by the Westmoreland Police Department.

According to authorities, Westmoreland police observed the vehicle speeding and driving recklessly and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle fled, and upon entering Kentucky the pursuit wound through Allen County and into Warren County on Hwy 101, reaching speeds of over 100 mph.

Once the pursuit neared the Smiths Grove city limits, the Allen County Sheriff’s Office terminated the pursuit, deactivating all emergency equipment. Minutes later, the vehicle left the road and struck a tree near the intersection of Hwy 101 and Hwy 68, resulting in three of the passengers being ejected.

Police said a total of five occupants were in the vehicle, with two of the passengers being pronounced dead at the scene by the Warren County Coroner’s Office. Two other occupants were airlifted to Tennessee hospitals and are currently listed in critical condition.

The remaining passenger has been admitted in a Tennessee hospital in stable condition.

Police have not released the names of the deceased or injured parties.
