After entering into an Executive Session at Monday night’s meeting, the Leitchfield City Council emerged and voted to approve a new Leitchfield Police Chief.

After Mayor William Thomason recommended current interim Police Chief Bryan Langdon be the new chief, the City Council voted 5-0 to appoint Langdon permanent Police Chief (council member Kelly Stevenson did not vote because Langdon is married to his niece).

“It feels good,” Langdon said about being appointed. “Everybody that applied was a good candidate and I do appreciate the council’s support and look forward to working with them.”

Langdon, who was appointed assistant police chief by the City Council after then LPD Chief Kevin Henderson resigned to take the Judge-Executive seat in  late August, said he doesn’t see the need to make major changes in how LPD operates.

“Chief Henderson had it running really well, and at this time I don’t see the need to fix something that’s not broken,” Langdon said “I just want to keep it pointed in the same direction he had it going.”

Langdon will now choose a new assistant police chief, but he has put no timetable on making that appointment.
