29 local candidates file paperwork to run in 2018 election

A total of 29 candidates have made their intentions known in several local races in 2018 by filing candidacy papers with the Grayson County Clerk’s Office.

  • With Leitchfield Mayor William Thomason announcing he will not run again, throwing their hats into the ring for the non-partisan office were Kevin Pharis, Charlie Elmore and Rick Embry.
  • Robbie Higdon, a Republican, is the lone candidate to file for 1st District Magistrate.
  • In the 3rd District Magistrates race, Randy Joyce, Steve Votaw and Terry Hayes, all Republicans, have filed candidacy papers.
  • Damon Hornback and Ricky Paul, both Republicans, filed to run for the 4th District Magistrate seat.
  • In the 5th District Magistrate race, Hank Meredith and Brian Ashley, both Republicans, filed candidacy papers this week.
  • Democrat Barry Cannon, and Paul Witten, Neal Saltsman and Dennis McCrady, all Republicans, are running for the 6th District Magistrate slot.
  • With current Grayson County Clerk Sherry Weedman deciding not to run again, filing to run for the office were Republicans Charlotte Willis and Jamie Layman Bratcher, and Democrat Becky Mercer.
  • Stacey Blaine, a Democrat, filed to continue to be the Grayson County Circuit Court Clerk.
  • Kelly Stevenson, an incumbent, and Travis Stewart, filed for the non-partisan Leitchfield City Council
  • Republican incumbents Marion Higgs, 3rd District Constable, and Tim Saltsman, 6th District Constable, both filed candidacy papers.
  • Boran Burgin, a Republican, filed for 2nd District Constable.
  • Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson, Sheriff Norman Chaffins, Jailer Jason Woosley, County Attorney Clay Ratley, and PVA Ernie Perkins, all Republicans, filed to run for their respective offices.

Candidates have until January 30 to file candidacy paperwork.
