On Monday afternoon at approximately 2:50, the Scottsville Police Department responded to the 200 block of Parkway Drive on the report of a shooting.

Upon arriving at the home, police found that 75-year-old William Calvert, a former Scottsville police officer, shot 47-year-old Jeffrey Powell while Powell, who works for North Central Telephone Cooperative, was working at Calvert’s residence on a service call regarding the suspect’s cable television, according to media reports.

Powell was airlifted to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville where he was listed in stable condition. Calvert’s wife was also at the home at the time of the shooting but was not injured.

Calvert was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder and transported to the Allen County Detention Center.

Calvert retired from the Scottsville PD in the late 1990s. No motive was given for the shooting but police said alcohol use was likely a factor.

According to WSMV.com, Calvert was too irate at his booking for a mugshot to be taken.
