Monday night at approximately 6:00, the Grayson County Sheriff’s, Leitchfield Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to the 5800 block of Brandenburg Road on the report of a car versus tractor accident.
Upon arriving at the scene, Lt. Clay Boone and Deputy Taylor Logsdon found that a northbound Ford Taurus, being driven by 58-yer-old Deborah Baker, of Hudson, had struck the rear of a John Deere tractor that had a wood splitter attached to the back of the tractor. Upon impact, the approximately 10-foot long wood splitter punctured the windshield of the Ford and peeled the top of the car back about five feet, as the Ford traveled underneath the back of the tractor. Baker was also struck by the wood splitter, causing a grave head injury.
The Taurus and tractor traveled 75 feet after initial impact. There were no brake marks at the scene, and the tractor had working lights on the back.
The tractor’s driver, 77-year-old Jimmie Smith, of Leitchfield, was transported by private means to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center with a neck injury. Hudson was transported to the Leitchfield Fire Department training center on Brandenburg Road by EMS where she was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital. She is currently listed in critical condition, according to Sheriff Norman Chaffins.
