An apparently intoxicated Elizabethtown man has been arrested after biting the cheek of a Good Samaritan down to the bone late Monday night.

The Elizabethtown Police Department responded to the 600 block of West Port Road on the report of two men fighting. When authorities arrived, the unnamed victim told police the attacker, 32-year-old Stefan Batts, of Elizabethtown, was stumbling into traffic near the intersection of West Port Road and St. John Road, media reports said. The victim got out of his car to help Batts back to his nearby home when Batts suddenly became combative, biting him on the cheek.

Multiple media reports indicate the bite was so deep the victim’s cheek was visible.

The victim was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital before being taken to University of Louisville Hospital for further treatment, which could include reconstructive surgery.

Batts was arrested and charged with assault and lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
