On Thursday afternoon, former eastern Kentucky lawyer Eric Conn had a bond hearing in federal court.
During the hearing, a judge ruled that Conn violated the terms of his bond by fleeing the country in June. Because of that violation, the judge ruled Conn had to forfeit the property put up for bail, including his Floyd County law complex, which has a statue of Abraham Lincoln positioned next to a replica of the Statue of Liberty.
Conn, 57, who bilked the Social Security Administration out of over $500 million, spent six months on the run before he was captured in Honduras in early December.
Before escaping, Conn entered into a plea agreement that called for him to serve 12 years in prison, but he now faces the possibility of life in prison as the government has pulled the plea deal off the table.
Conn’s trial on the escape charge has been scheduled for February 12.
He is being held in the Grayson County Detention Center.
