Thursday morning at approximately 4:15, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Leitchfield Fire Department and EMS responded to the intersection of Duff Road and Hwy 54 on the report of a single-vehicle accident.

Upon arriving at the scene, Deputy Fred Norder found that a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck had been traveling south on Duff Road when the driver, 52-year-old Stephen Baldwin, of Paintsville, blew through the stop sign at the intersection of Hwy 54.

Norder said after disregarding the stop sign, Baldwin went airborne (for about 40 feet) and entered a deep ditch before striking a tree head-on. Baldwin was disoriented and may have lost consciousness at some point after the collision, according to Norder.

Norder estimated Baldwin’s speed at the time of the accident as 60 to 65 miles per hour.

Baldwin was transported by EMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center before being transferred to University of Kentucky Medical Center. He suffered several serious injuries, including a probable broken leg and sternum.
