At approximately 10:35 Monday morning, a bomb threat was received at Grayson County High School.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the GCHS campus, including the Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police, Grayson County Emergency Management, school district authorities, and EMS.

Upon receiving the threat, school administrators, over the school’s loudspeaker, informed teachers to immediately check their respective emails. After reading the email, teachers led their classes outside the building to near and on the football field.

Parents, who received a one-call from district authorities informing them of the threat, were allowed to pick up students at adjacent Lawler Elementary School.

Kentucky State Police bomb sniffing dogs arrived on the scene and searched the building for threats. At 2:00, after police found no threat, the students remaining on the grounds were allowed into the gymnasium, and then released onto buses or to their personal vehicles.

Leitchfield Police Chief Bryan Langdon said that the threat was taken seriously and when the person responsible is found, he or she will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Grayson County Schools has released the following statement on the incident:

This morning, a bomb threat was called in to Grayson County High School. Following our standard safety protocol, all students and staff were immediately evacuated and law enforcement contacted.

After an extensive search which included the Kentucky State Police bomb sniffing canine unit, no threat was found. Law enforcement will continue to investigate the source of this threat and that person or persons will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Grayson County Schools will always consider the safety of our students and staff to be our #1 priority. School safety is a community effort, so if you hear or see something, please say something.

Our sincere thanks go out to all the responders and agencies who joined with us in this investigation. We are also grateful for the leadership of the GCHS administrative team, its teachers and staff, and to our students and their parents who maintained calm in the face of this potential threat.
