On Saturday, the Glasgow Police Department conducted a traffic stop on East Main Street for a seatbelt violation.
During the stop, police observed a handgun (later determined to be stolen) laying on the dash of the vehicle and an AR-15 rifle in the backseat. A search of the vehicle revealed a bottle of Gabapentin (aka “Johnnies”) and a small amount of marijuana.
Police also determined that a passenger, 26-year-old James Wyatt, of Glasgow, had an outstanding failure to appear warrant.
Wyatt was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun by convicted felon, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.
The driver, 25-year-old Matthew Runyon, also of Glasgow, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property (firearm), carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of marijuana.
Both suspects were lodged in the Barren County Detention Center. Wyatt is being held on a $5,000 cash bond while Runyon is no longer listed as an inmate.
