The following is a statement released by Grayson County Schools on the Wednesday arrest of long-time teacher Roger Williams on two counts of sexual abuse and possessing/viewing matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

Our primary concern is always the protection of our students. The moment we become aware of any situation such as this, our first step is to immediately notify and work with authorities. We have encouraged the “hear something, say something” rule, which led to this investigation.

On Wednesday, we notified Kentucky State Police of allegations regarding a GCHS teacher, which consequently led to the arrest of Roger Williams. We have been and continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement during this investigation.

The safety of our students is always paramount. We remain committed to taking any and all steps necessary to ensure the security of every child in Grayson County Schools.

Signed, Doug Robinson, Superintendent, Grayson County Schools

As first reported Thursday night by K105.com, school officials informed Grayson County High School students of changes to policies regarding student movement within the school itself after the Roger Williams arrest report indicated the sexual abuse of the student occurred within the walls of GCHS.

While being questioned by Kentucky State Police Detective Ken Borders, Williams admitted to the allegations of sexual abuse of a 17-year-old female student.

On Thursday, GCHS students were told they are not allowed to be in the hallway while class is in session; they are not allowed to go into a teacher’s classroom during that teacher’s planning period; and they are not allowed to be in a classroom unless they are a member of the class taking place.

In the cases of former high school teachers Gavin Logsdon, charged with third-degree rape in November 2016, and Jonathan Jones, charged with third-degree sodomy in March, the alleged sexual misconduct took place outside of school grounds (as far as has been released by law enforcement).
