Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:30, Grayson County Special Deputy Mark Stanton was patrolling on Salt River Road when he approached a vehicle with tags that expired in 1993.

The vehicle was being driven by 37-year-old Daniel Crabtree, of Leitchfield. As Stanton pulled in behind Crabtree, as they traveled west on Salt River Road, Grayson County Deputy Mark Newman passed the duo traveling east as he responded to a different call.

As soon as Crabtree noticed Deputy Newman, he began to flee Stanton, with Deputy Newman joining the chase, according to police.

The pursuit, in which Crabtree passed at least one motorist at a high rate of speed, traveled onto Kiper Road before Crabtree pulled over near the intersection of Beaver Dam Creek Road.

During a search of Crabtree’s vehicle (which had been reported stolen), police located a quantity of methamphetamine and an unspecified drug.

Crabtree was arrested and charged by Dep. Newman with two counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine, drug unspecified), wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property, fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, driving on a DUI suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and having no tail lamps.

He is lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
