On Monday morning contractors will begin wedging I-65 bridge ends over Hwy 31-W and CSX railroad near Munfordville at Exit 65.
Work began at 2:00 Monday morning, with the closure of two outside north and southbound lanes. This will effectively close the on-ramp from Hwy 31-W to southbound I-65, and the off-ramp from northbound I-65 to Hwy 31-W, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction, according to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Chris Jessie.
Jessie said motorists wishing to access these ramps will have to travel Hwy 31-W north and I-65 north to the Bonnieville interchange (Exit 71) then return south to Exit 65.
Work should be complete on these lanes by 8:00 Monday morning, and the exits will reopen.
After 8:00, the two inside lanes will close to complete wedging. Traffic will continue being reduced to one lane in each direction. Wedging of all lanes in both directions should be complete by 3:00 Monday afternoon, according to Jessie.
Delays in both directions will be possible in the vicinity of Exit 65, especially midday and early afternoon.
On Tuesday, wedging will take place on I-65 bridges over Bacon Creek near Bonnieville at Exit 71. Work on Tuesday morning will also begin at 2:00, with closure of the outside north and southbound lanes. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction but Exit 71 will remain open.
Jessie said work should be complete on these lanes by 8:00 Tuesday morning, and then closure will switch to the inside two lanes. Traffic will continue being reduced to one lane in each direction. Wedging of all lanes in both directions should be complete by 3:00 Tuesday afternoon. Delays will be possible near Exit 71, especially midday and early afternoon.
Also on Tuesday, contractors will make shoulder repairs at southbound mile marker 66 near the location of a previous multi-vehicle crash. This work will also begin at 2:00 Tuesday morning and should be complete before 3:00 Tuesday afternoon.
During this time, the outside lane will be closed, reducing traffic to two lanes in the mile marker 66 vicinity.
