A drug investigation by the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of a Utica man Tuesday morning.

According to police, during an unrelated investigation, an Ohio County deputy observed several marijuana plants growing outside of a residence in the 600 block of Boling Road, about five miles east of Utica. Further investigation by the deputy revealed several Xanax pills and cash being “located” on the property, according to police.

Additionally, the homeowner, 49-year-old Franklin Powell, was found to have outstanding arrest warrants.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence, and while executing the warrant discovered 45 Xanax pills, methamphetamine, marijuana, and cash in the residence, according to authorities.

Powell was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), cultivating marijuana (five plants or more), possession of marijuana, and disorderly conduct. He was lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center on a $3,000 cash bond.
