On Monday, the Glasgow Police Department conducted a traffic stop on West Main Street on a vehicle with an expired registration.

As the officer exited his cruiser and began approaching the passenger car, the vehicle turned and sped toward the officer before turning back onto West Main Street. The high-speed pursuit, with speeds over 100 mph, reached Brownsville where the vehicle drove onto Old Ferry Road and traveled into Green River Lake.

Police said the driver, 38-year-old Joshua Soukup, of Louisville, swam across the lake but was apprehended when he reached the opposite shore. Two female passengers were also detained.

After pulling the vehicle from the water, authorities seized several bags of cocaine and methamphetamine from inside the car.

Soukup was arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine, methamphetamine), two counts of wanton endangerment, two counts of fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, DUI, and 11 moving or non-moving violations.

He was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
