On Wednesday, Meade County Emergency Management reported that people have seen multiple dead fish floating in the Ohio River, near Brandenburg.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife says that the fish kill is the result of the spill last week in Bardstown at the 1792 Barton Whiskey Warehouse where 9,000 barrels of bourbon spilled out of the warehouse when it partially collapsed.

In a statement, Meade County Emergency Management said that the fish died from the alcohol in the water by ingesting it, or because the alcohol depletes oxygen levels in water, causing fish to suffocate.

The company has already been notified it will receive a violation notice for the thousands of fish killed near Bardstown as a result of the spilled whiskey flowing into a nearby body of water.
