Tuesday morning at approximately 1:00, Kentucky State Police, Taylor County Sheriff’s Office and Campbellsville Police Department responded to a riot at the Taylor County Detention Center.
Police said the riot was in a cell holding 37 inmates, but officials were unclear what sparked the outbreak of violence. Several of the inmates covered cameras and detached a bed frame from the floor while destroying the cell’s interior. The inmates also used the bed frame to attempt to breach the door of the cell.
Police said shortly after the arrival of law enforcement, jailers, using pepper spray, were able to detain and regain control of the inmates.
Significant damage was done to the interior of one cell, police said, with the wall broken around a cell door.
Several inmates were removed and transported to the Marion County Detention Center. There were no injuries reported at the scene.
State police said criminal charges are forthcoming.
