The Leitchfield Police Department has thrown down the gauntlet in challenging the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office to the Stinky Fish Challenge.

In a video posted on Friday on its Facebook page, LPD Officers Jeff Helvey and Ian Renfrow, as well as Capt. Brandon Cook and Ordinance Officer David Riley, issued the challenge, to take place at the Grayson County Fair on Saturday, September 1, as a fundraiser for Shop with a Cop.

The Stinky Fish Challenge consists of cutting up and eating fermented herring from Norway ($40 per can), which, according to Officer Renfrow is rated “as one of the most putrid odors of anything edible out there.”

For the challenge to take place, LPD has to raise at least $2,500 for Shop with a Cop, a Christmas program where officers purchase gifts for financially disadvantaged youths.

Capt. Cook, in talking about the challenge said, “I just want Sheriff Norman Chaffins to know I’m call him out!” Sheriff Chaffins said his office will issue a response early next week.

K105 will have more information on this developing story as it becomes available.
