Thursday morning at approximately 2:50, Kentucky State Police was requested to investigate the death of an inmate who passed away at The Medical Center at Caverna.

According to state police, an Edmonson County Deputy Jailer had transported 23-year-old Aaron D. Meredith, of Bee Spring, to the Hart County Detention Center where detention center staffers had the jailer take Meredith to The Medical Center at Caverna to be medically cleared for incarceration.

While at the hospital, Meredith passed away. He was pronounced dead by the Hart County Coroner.

Police said Meredith had been placed under arrest by an Edmonson County Deputy Sheriff on Wednesday night at approximately 11:00 on charges including possession of controlled substance, DUI, possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle, and careless driving.

Edmonson County does not have a jail therefore all inmates are housed in the Hart County Detention Center.

The investigation continues and is being conducted by KSP Detective Wes Medley. He is being assisted by Hart County Coroner Reggie Pettitt.
