A worker at Zaxby’s in Somerset, located at 2039 Hwy 27, was recently diagnosed with the liver disease that’s swept through Kentucky over the last year. As of November 28, nearly 3,000 Kentuckians have been diagnosed with Hep A.

Officials are recommending that anyone who ate food from the restaurant between November 9 and 30 be vaccinated.

Zaxby’s has established a hotline for concerned customers at 866-892-9297.

“All employees at the Somerset location were previously vaccinated or will be vaccinated in order to continue to work. The restaurant, which received a 97 on its most recent health inspection, was fully sanitized this weekend as a precaution,” the restaurant said in a statement to media outlets.

The best practices to avoid getting hepatitis A is to be vaccinated and use proper hand washing practices. Of the 29 Grayson County citizens diagnosed with Hep A, 27 contracted the disease via intravenous drug use.

Health experts say symptoms of hepatitis A are fatigue, decreased appetite, stomach pain, nausea, darkened urine, pale stools and jaundice. People can become ill 15-50 days after being exposed to the virus. Anyone experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention.
