The first baby born at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in 2019 was a couple of days early but nobody in the family seems to mind.

Jessica and James Baxter, of Leitchfield, are the proud parents of Mackenzie Baxter who entered the world at 9:19 a.m. on Tuesday, January 1. The baby girl weighed 7 pounds 4 ounces and was 19 inches long. Dr. Sam Buck delivered the first baby of the year for the second year in a row.

In addition to her parents, Mackenzie was welcomed by siblings Isaac and Olivia Baxter, and grandparents Christy and Robert Jones, and Linda and Jimmy Baxter.

TLRMC has been averaging almost 400 births annually for the past several years. According to Bonnie Embrey, RNC, BSN, Nursing Director for Mother/Baby Care (Obstetrics) at TLRMC, the OB nursing staff always makes an extra effort to celebrate the first baby of the year.

“The staff takes the time to gather gifts to give to our first baby then gets them ready,” Embrey said. “Families who have babies born at TLRMC already know how much the staff cares about every baby born here. This is a time for them to go above and beyond what they already do for every one of our families.”

You can see all the babies born at Twin Lakes by going to their new website www.tlrmc.com and click on the “Nursery” button.

Embrey wants to thank and recognize the people and businesses who donated gifts to the new mom and baby in honor of being the first delivery of the New Year. Among the donors were the Grayson County Health Department, the Sew Bee It Quilting Guild, the American Legion Auxiliary, Clark’s Upholstery, Dairy Queen, The Cecilian Bank, Mi Camino Real, Little Caesar’s Pizza, Farmer’s Feedmill, and the TLRMC Gift Shop.
