The Breckinridge County Tigers came into the Cougar Den last Friday evening and went home with a 46-30 win over the Cougars.

The low-scoring first period ended in a 7-7 tie. Brett Payton hit 1-of-2 at the free throw line to start the second period and give the Cougars an 8-7 lead. That would be the Cougars’ last lead of the night. The Tigers answered with an 8-0 run to lead by seven, 15-8 at the 4:54 mark. They led by five points, 17-12 at the half.

Leading by six points, 20-14 at the 6:31 mark, the Tigers went on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 15 points, 29-14 with 4:06 remaining in the third period. They led by 14 points, 36-22 heading into the final period of play.

A lay-up by Josh Embry with 3:50 left to play cut the lead to nine points, 38-29, but the Cougars would get no closer. The Tigers closed out the game on an 8-1 run to win by 16 points.

Kobe Poole led all scorers in the game with 22 points for the Tigers, while Tanner Whitworth added 11.

Nolan Shartzer led the Cougars with 12 points and he also led the team on the glass with eight rebounds. Spencer Sharp scored seven points, while Embry finished with six. Wyatt Schultz and Matthew Loughran both finished with two points and Payton closed out the scoring with one point.
