A Leitchfield man has been arrested after a domestic violence shooting.

At approximately 11:30 Friday morning, 33-year-old Wesley Roberts shot his girlfriend with a shotgun as she attempted to leave in a vehicle from a location in Moutardier, in Edmonson County. The victim was transported by private means to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center before being airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital.

Roberts fled the scene in a silver GMC pickup truck that unconfirmed reports indicate belongs to his employer.

A search for Roberts began, with the Grayson and Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office, Leitchfield Police Department, and Kentucky State Police involved in the manhunt.

Then, at approximately 3:45, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Norman Chaffins, Chief Deputy Jarrod Mudd and Sgt. Clay Boone along with Deputies Rance Whobrey, DJ Newton and Mark Newman, located Roberts, whose vehicle had become stuck in a field near the 4000 block of Anneta Road, according to Chaffins. Roberts was taken into custody without incident, as he complied with commands to exit the vehicle, Chaffins said.

Assisting in the Anneta Road capture were LPD Chief Bryan Landgon and Sgt. Robert Jackson (along with other LPD officers), Kentucky State Trooper Brandon Brooks and Edmonson Co. Sheriff’s Deputy Jordan Jones.

Prior to his capture, Roberts communicated to a family member that he wanted to give himself up to authorities. This came after Roberts informed someone he works with that he would leave the GMC truck, which apparently does not belong to Roberts, at a gas station near a bus depot, an unconfirmed report said. It’s unclear which bus depot, but the nearest such facility to the Moutardier area is in Bowling Green.

After his capture by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Roberts was turned over to the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office. He will be held in the Hart County Jail and faces a likely charge of attempted murder.

As a victim of domestic violence, the identity of the female shot by Roberts will likely not be released by authorities.
