The Daviess County Lady Panthers came into Monday night’s game in the Cougar Den having won just four games and losing 20. Perhaps the Lady Cougars took that as an indication they could walk over the Lady Panthers, but as it turned out, such was not the case as Daviess County led from start to finish in a 53-46 win. It was the Lady Cougars’ sixth straight loss.

The Lady Panthers got scoring from eight different players and they hit seven three-pointers on the evening. Grayson County did not hit a three-point shot all night. Adding to their woes was a 9-of-20 night at the free throw line and it all added up to another loss.

The Lady Panthers raced out to a quick 10-2 lead at the 5:11 mark and they maintained that eight-point advantage at the end of the first period, 21-13.

When Kailey Bowers put back a missed shot at the 5:46 mark of the second period, the lead had grown to 10 points, 25-15, and coach Josh Basham called a timeout to try and urge his players on, telling them they were so much better than they were showing.

The urging seemed to work as the Lady Cougars closed out the half on an 11-5 run to close to within four points of the lead, 30-26 at the half.

The Lady Panthers opened the third quarter by scoring the first five points and the lead was quickly back up to nine, 35-26 at the 7:18 mark. The Lady Cougars then worked it back to a five point deficit, 39-34 heading into the fourth quarter. When Ella Robinson scored on a put-back basket at the 4:41 mark of the fourth period, the Lady Cougars trailed by just a single point, 43-42 and it seemed it was anyone’s ball game.

But it was not to be. The Lady Panthers scored the next eight straight points to take a nine-point lead, 51-42 with 1:57 left to play and the outcome was decided.

Katie Mewes led the Lady Panthers with 12 points.

Junior Laura Vincent had a terrific game in a losing cause, scoring a career-high 18 points and making it a double-double night by pulling down 15 rebounds. Robinson also had a career high with 14 points and she added eight rebounds.

Kenzie Renfrow added seven points, Bailey Snyder scored four and Rachael Snyder closed out the scoring with three points.
