The Clarkson City Commission unanimously approved the Grayson County Health Department hosting a Harm Reduction Program (aka needle exchange) informational forum at the Clarkson City Hall and Community Center.
Responding to Grayson County magistrates saying that the community needs to be educated on the benefits of a needle exchange program before Fiscal Court approves the measure, Grayson County Health Department Director Mindy Renfrow has organized six educational forums throughout the county, covering the six magisterial districts.
With the county experiencing a significant Hepatitis C outbreak, Renfrow said the public needs to be “re-directed and informed” about exactly what a needle exchange does to limit the spread of disease, which is the ultimate purpose of the program.
The forum in Clarkson will be held on May 6 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
K105 will provide information on the other forums scheduled for the county in the coming days and weeks.
