A seven-year-old girl has been accidentally shot in the head in Louisville.
The Shively Police Department responded to the shooting at approximately 3:00 Tuesday afternoon in the 2200 block of Crums Lane, near Butler High School, according to a report by WAVE3.com. Police said the girl’s 11-year-old brother found a handgun and was playing with the firearm when it fired, striking his sister in the head.
The girl underwent surgery Tuesday night at a Louisville hospital and is listed in critical but stable condition.
Police say the children’s uncle, who said the firearm was in a secure box underneath a bed, has guardianship over the children and was outside when the shooting occurred.
