Two Leitchfield residents have been arrested on felony drug charges after Grayson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Officer Marco alerted to the odor of narcotics following police finding a female slumped over in a vehicle.
On Tuesday afternoon at approximately 12:10, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Norder and his K-9, Marco, responded to the Center Court convenience store parking lot, at 1421 Brandenburg Road, on the report of two people allegedly under the influence of intoxicants.
Upon arriving at the scene, Sheriff Norman Chaffins said Norder encountered a female slumped over in the passenger seat of a 2003 Buick Century. After further investigation, Norder deployed Marco around the vehicle, with the drug-detecting dog immediately alerting to the odor of narcotics on the driver’s side door.
Police said a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the presence of drug paraphernalia as well as suspected methamphetamine under the driver’s seat. The substance field tested positive for methamphetamine, according to Chaffins. Also discovered during the search were several pills, including Gabapentin.
The driver, Eric D. Whitmore, 51, and passenger, Kristian J. Rye, 38, both of Leitchfield, were arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine, drug unspecified) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, Rye was charged with public intoxication and Whitmore with failure to produce an insurance card and for having no registration receipt.
Both were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
