A toddler and her mother have been injured in a three-vehicle accident on Lilac Road.

On Wednesday afternoon just before 4:00, Grayson County Deputy Mark Newman, the Leitchfield Fire Department and EMS responded to 1800 Lilac Road on the report of a three-vehicle accident.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found that a Honda passenger car, traveling south and being driven by Alex Lovell, of Leitchfield, had stopped and was waiting to turn left onto Cave Mill Road. An Oldsmobile Aurora, being driven by Samantha Hay, of Irvington, was stopped behind the Honda when a southbound Chevrolet Cruze, being driven by Shellie Henning, of McDaniels, slammed into the back of the Oldsmobile, causing the vehicle to strike the Honda, which sustained only minor damage. There were no visible brake marks at the scene.

Henning suffered a leg injury and was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, while her toddler daughter, who suffered a blow the head, was transported to the ER by a relative. Neither Hay, her juvenile daughter nor Lovell were injured.

Henning and her daughter were treated and released.

Newman said the cause of the accident was driver inattentiveness. He also said he believes the injured toddler was properly restrained (a child’s car seat was secured in the back seat of the Chevy), but likely struck her head on the child seat’s restraint bar.
