(Leitchfield, KY) – The Grayson County Chamber of Commerce will see a change in leadership as of June 1st, as Misty Thomas (K105) steps into the role of President of the COC Board of Directors. She has served as the vice president for the board of directors this past year. Two new members and a new vice president will round out the board of directors for 2019-2020.
“I look forward to the opportunity to serve our chamber of commerce on behalf of our almost 300 members. I am planning to encourage this board to be more project oriented, and help breathe life into some of the ideas created in 2018 when the chamber enlisted the help of a community development company to oversee a 20/20 Vision plan for Grayson County. Now that we have heard from the people, we have several options to choose from.”
Thomas went on to say the first project she is encouraging the board to oversee involves the public square. ” We hope to add some attractive elements to our public square that will also boast some of the amazing talent and success of some of our natives. The chamber cannot take-on the costs of these projects but we can organize and manage. The funding for these projects will hopefully be found through the cities, businesses, or organizations who would like to see some changes but are shy in the manpower to oversee the projects completed. ”
“It’s about vision and completion. I hear a lot of ideas floating about on social media, in the boardroom, or at the table of an impromptu meeting with people. I’m excited about our future and I believe it’s always about growing to the next level,” said Thomas.
Thomas fills the role held this past year by Steven Smith. Smith said “I think the community is fortunate to have a chamber that is actively working to make Grayson Co. a better place. The chamber has great leadership, and is actively working to expand the vision to include all areas of the county.”
Thomas added that under Smith’s leadership the Grayson County Chamber of Commerce was financially overseen with great stewardship, and she appreciated the leadership model he displayed for her to step in to. “Steven has been a tremendous asset to our board, and I am thankful he will continue this year as a board member. His passion to see our vision expand, as well as the other board members I have collaborated with, is exciting and contagious. We have a lot of very talented and intelligent people on our board, and I look forward to serving with them this year.”
April Spalding, GC Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, said she has enjoyed working with Smith this past year, and called him very supportive and open to any ideas she brought to him. Spalding said she is looking forward to this year with Thomas as president saying, “It’s been fun working with her as a chamber board member. Her professionalism and love for her county shines through in whatever she does. With a passion of helping others, I have no doubt this will be present in her new role. I look forward to working with her even more in her new role as chamber president.”
Thomas works for Heritage Media of Ky., Inc., the parent company of K105 and 103.9 The Moose. She co-hosts “In The Know” and hosts “Shop Local Leitchfield” as well as broadcasting morning news, and plays an active role in promotions, marketing, and program directing for the company. She has served as the Vice President for Tri-County CASA’s Board of Directors, Saving Hope Charities Board of Directors, is a committee member of Women of Worth Grayson County Chapter, and is married to Jason Thomas. In addition, Thomas also serves as the Co-President of the Twin Lakes Professional Women’s Organization. They have lived in Leitchfield for the past 23 years where they raised their three children: Madison, Mallory, and Elijah.
Dr. Sam Buck and Debbie Fillipone are the two newest members to be voted on to the board by their peers. Jason Woosley was voted the Board of Directors Vice President for 2019-2020. Woosley will succeed as President in June 2020.
Woosely said he was pleased to step into the role of VP, ” I just want to say how honored I am to have the opportunity to serve the community in this position. I look forward to working closely with the other board members and community leaders in promoting growth within the communities of Grayson County. Most of you are aware that there are several projects already in progress in the county and cities within. The community is on track to exponential growth and improvements and I am excited to be a part of this growth, not just as Vice President of the Chamber Board, but also as your County Jailer.”
