A motorist traveling in the wrong direction on I-65 has been killed after striking a Greyhound bus and semi-truck.

Thursday morning at approximately 3:20, Kentucky State Police responded to the three-vehicle accident at the 67 mile marker of I-65 in Hart County.

Police said the preliminary investigation showed that 37-year-old Charles Cartwright, of Louisville, was driving a 2008 Toyota SUV north in a southbound lane when Cartwright struck a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck, being driven by 34-year-old Jamie Crescencio, of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, and a 2014 MCI Greyhound bus, being driven by 38-year-old Michael Whitefield, of Escondido, California.

Cartwright was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hart County Coroner’s Office. Whitefield was transported to TJ Sampson Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

State police said six passengers aboard the bus were transported to local hospitals and treated for minor injuries, while 29 passengers did not report being injured. Crescencio and a passenger in the semi-truck were also not injured.
