Target and The Fresh Market are recalling some salads and sandwiches because of possible Listeria contamination.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, there are two brands currently effected, Archer Farms and Fresket, both produced by Elevation Foods. Officials at Elevation Foods said they discovered the problem after testing egg salad. An investigation is underway to determine how the products were contaminated.

Officials are recalling Archer Farms’ egg salad and deviled egg sandwiches made on June 18. The Fresket sandwiches recalled include tuna salad, Thai lobster salad and egg salad.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Listeriosis is a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. An estimated 1,600 people get listeriosis each year, and about 260 die. The infection is most likely to sicken pregnant women and their newborns, adults aged 65 or older, and people with weakened immune systems.”

Anyone who purchased the recalled products is asked to return the food for a refund.

The nearest Target stores to Grayson County are in Elizabethtown, Bowling Green and Owensboro. The Fresh Market’s nearest locations are in Louisville, Lexington and Evansville, Indiana.
