On the heels of the resignation of Leitchfield Police Chief Bryan Langdon, the Leitchfield City Attorney is resigning his position after eight-and-a-half months on the job.
Dennie Fentress was selected by newly-elected Mayor Rick Embry in late 2018 to replace the retiring Kenneth Smart, who served as city attorney under former mayor William Thomason for nearly 25 years.
The nearly 62-year-old Fentress said that he had already decided to retire when he was asked to become city attorney. He said that in hindsight, “I think I made the right decision the first time.”
“I appreciate the city council and mayor,” Fentress said. “I think a lot of them. And all the women at city hall are great. They were wonderful to work with.”
The city council and Embry were involved in a shouting match during an executive session (with Fentress present) at the last Leitchfield City Council meeting on August 5. Langdon was in the private session, leading to speculation that the disagreement was in some way related to the police department. Langdon offered his resignation to Embry three days later.
Embry, who said, “We really hate losing Dennie. He has served us well,” added that he will look to replace Fentress in the coming weeks.
