A Brandenburg Road home has suffered major damage in a weekend fire.

Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:45, the Leitchfield Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 4900 block of Brandenburg Road. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the attached garage fully engulfed in flames.

A strong turnout allowed LFD to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes after arriving, but the structure sustained heavy fire or smoke damage throughout the home, with the exception of two rooms.

LFD Chief Tim Duvall said the fire began as the homeowner was working on a demolition derby car in the garage. The garage caught fire once, with the homeowner putting out the flames. But according to Duvall, the fire “flashed” soon after, resulting in firefighters being called.

No injuries were reported, although firefighters did rescue a cat from the home, but the pet later died.
