Lady Cougar volleyball beats Glasgow in straight sets

The Lady Cougar volleyball team took a straight-set victory over visiting Glasgow on Monday in the Cougar Den, 25-13, 25-13, 25-20.

Junior Ella Robinson led the Lady Cougars with 12 kills, while senior Chloe Cox and junior Kenzie Skaggs had four apiece. Senior setter Alexis Hart led the team with 21 assists, junior Bailey Richardson led with 12 digs, and Skaggs led the team with 10 aces.

The Lady Cougars trailed in the early going of the first set, but caught up at 8-8, went ahead 10-8 and never trailed again. They still led by two points, 12-10, when Hart took the serve and served six straight points, including two aces, to go ahead by eight points, 18-10. At set-point, the Lady Scotties were whistled for being in the net and Grayson County took the first set 25-13.

Skaggs served four aces in an 8-0 Lady Cougar run at the start of the second set and the Lady Scotties were never closer than six points the rest of the set. Leading 23-13, Skaggs served a pair of aces to give her team the second-set win.

The third set was close at the start, with the two teams separated by one or two points, before the Lady Scotties opened up a five-point lead at 16-11 before a Robins0on kill gave the ball back to Grayson County. Robinson then served three aces in a five point run that put the Lady Cougar in front 17-16.

A Glasgow rotation error, a Hart kill and a Glasgow hitting error gave the Lady Cougars a three-point advantage, 20-17. Leading 23-20 and with Hart serving, a Glasgow hitting error sent it to match-point at 24-20, and when Ashanti Gore’s kill attempt was in the net, the Lady Cougars celebrated their win.

The JV squad also won in straight sets, 21-15, 22-20.
