A Meade County deputy jailer has been arrested after shooting another man during a domestic dispute in Breckinridge County.

On Friday night at approximately 10:20, Kentucky State Police responded to the 100 block of Clora Kiper Road, in McDaniels, after Nicholas S. Peek, 29, of McDaniels, a Meade County deputy jailer, shot 41-year-old Michael J. Kunick, of Nicholasville, in the neck during a domestic dispute.

Kunick was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released, according to Kentucky State Police spokesman Scotty Sharp.

According to the arrest citation, Peek approached Kunick, who was outside a residence, and shot him in the neck. Kunick then attempted to run from the area, with Peek following and continuing to shoot at the victim.

Peek was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with first-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Peek’s arrest comes less than two years after his father, 60-year-old Donnie Peek, of Westview, and another were shot and killed during a domestic dispute, also in Breckinridge County.

The shootings occurred at 484 Centerview-Rough River Lane, less than five miles from the Breckinridge/Grayson County line, in the early morning hours of December 20, 2017.

Upon arriving at the scene, Kentucky State Police found Donny Peek and 55-year-old Jeffrey Moore, of Harned, deceased in the driveway. Both had suffered gunshot wounds.

The investigation showed that Peek was the live-in boyfriend of Theresa Moore, who lives at the Centerview-Rough River Lane residence, along with her son, 28-year-old Jonathan Masterson.

Then-KSP spokesman Jeff Gregory said that allegedly Peek and Theresa Moore were in a domestic dispute when Jeffrey Moore, her estranged husband, was called to the residence. When Jeffrey Moore arrived, he and Donny Peek became involved in a physical altercation in the driveway that resulted in Peek shooting Jeffrey Moore.

Masterson attempted to render aid to Jeffrey Moore when Peek allegedly fired a shot at Masterson, resulting in Masterson shooting Peek several times, killing him.
