As originally reported by K105.com last week, since the advent of package alcohol sales in Leitchfield in October 2016, nearly $9 million in alcohol was sold as of April 30 of this year.

The latest sales numbers, though, are now in. Those numbers, courtesy of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), show that between May 1 and July 31 of this year, $1,976,071 worth of alcohol was sold in Leitchfield, the most sales in any quarter since package stores began selling alcohol.

The latest numbers raise total alcohol sales (including by-the-drink sales) in Leitchfield since October 2016 to $10,883,986, or an average of $320,117 per month.

The city of Leitchfield’s six-percent regulatory fee collected during the latest quarter amounts to $69,892, bringing the total regulatory fee revenue to $603,827 since the onset of package sales.

That revenue, per state statute, is earmarked for two government entities — city government administrative fees related to alcohol sales (e.g. ABC coordinator), and the Leitchfield Police Department. LPD uses the revenue to enhance alcohol-related enforcement as well as provide alcohol education in schools.
